Simon and Garfunkel最為人熟識的首推sound of silence. 當中的people talking without speaking, people hearing without listening兩句, 可看出paul simon填詞高超的技巧. 今天想跟大家分享的, 也是一首填得很好的詞, 當然, 也很悅耳啦.
很多歌曲都是情情塔塔, 也有些歌頌一些很偉大的事情, 如母愛、自由、環保等, 也有小部分描述自的的人生觀, 甚至無聊的事情. 但這首歌的題材卻冷門得可以: 一個年青人打劫了賣酒的商店, 明早就為此事而離去.
歌詞一開首描寫自己心愛的女子在身邊安詳的睡覺, 滋潤的秀髮反映著冬月的淡淡光芒, 簡直是在寫詩一般美麗.
當大家以為這是一首很溫馨的歌曲時, 卻發現第一段的安詳, 其實是用來對比作者的焦慮, 原來他正要離去了.
第三段解釋為何有那麼幸福的生活, 傾心的愛人, 卻要放棄: 原來是搶劫回來. 從兩句oh what have I done, why have I done it看到, 作者必定是一時衝動, 現在後悔莫及了. 但後悔又如何, 持械行劫可是嚴重罪行來的 (英文的held up 即是持槍的意思)
最後一段以暗喻的方法, 說出悲慘際遇的無奈. 當時是零晨三時, 距離天亮要離去的時間只有兩三小時吧了, 眼前的安寧很快就要消失了.
究竟早上那年青人會離情人而去, 是為了逃亡? 還是會讓警察逮捕? 作者沒有明言, 也要靠我們猜測細味了.
